Seven Great Tips for Choosing Shower Wall Tile

//Seven Great Tips for Choosing Shower Wall Tile

Shower walls are often covered with beautiful tile to accentuate the overall design of the bathroom space. Finding the perfect shower wall tile isn’t always easy. However, it’s certainly not impossible. Here are a few tips to help you find the right shower tiles for your bathroom.

1. Smaller Tiles Work Great on Curves
If your shower includes curves throughout, using smaller tiles on these areas can make it a much easier project. Not only will smaller tiles handle the curves better, but they will also provide an elegant look to just about any shower.

2. Consider Cleaning with Your Selection
Shower wall tile can become quite dirt, so choosing the right tile will make it much easier to clean. For example, a larger slab is quite a bit easier to clean compared to mosaic-style tiling.

3. Add Contrast with a Second Tile Choice
Often, choosing two different colors or textures can add contrast. However, you do want to be careful about using small ledgestone tile. This type of tile will give you a stacked-rock look, but the rough surface makes it slow to drain. If you have a heavy mineral content within your water, it can cause a buildup on this type of tile.

4. Choose Mosaic Tile Wisely
Mosaic tile is quite popular for shower walls and provides a beautiful look. However, you want to choose tile that will give you at least 95% contact from the backer board to the tile. This will keep you from needing to trust the glue on each sheet of tile, which provides a seamless look.

5. Frame Smaller Tile with the Main, Larger Tile
Sometimes, the larger tile you choose doesn’t offer a slip resistance you need for the floor. You can use a smaller tile and frame it with the larger tile to get the look you want and the slip resistance you need.

6. Choose Smaller Tile for Sloped Ceilings
A shower with a sloped ceiling isn’t always easy to tile. However, with smaller tile, you can create a beautiful look and provides a more graceful slope.

7. Think of How You will Feel with the Tile
Your shower walls are going to see quite a bit of you. It’s important to consider how you are going to feel when the light hits the tile, the warm water is streaming down and you are enjoying the steam from your shower. The colors, texture and overall feel may provide a more relaxing shower or it could actually make you feel uncomfortable. Make sure you consider how you will feel when selecting shower tile.

I do like that you bring up the feel of the tile and why that is important. After all, when you’re enjoying a steamy shower the color and layout of the tile can have a major impact on how you feel. If the colors are too bright or arranged in weird ways then looking at them might make you become noxious.
